2 Day Post Operative Lymphatic Drainage Course -- $700

Hands On Time

This course is very hands on. We believe that touch is key when learning a new modality. Each day consists of both didactic and hands on instruction.

Post Operative Clients

Typically we like to have 1-2 post operative clients attend our second day of instruction so class members will have the opportunity to experience the consultation, bolstering and needs of a post op client.

  • Learn proper questions to ask prior to beginning work
  • Decide what areas you will focus your time on
  • Be comfortable with bandage removal and open wounds
  • Understand how to work around stitches, bandages and drains during a lymphatic drainage session with a post operative client.

Beyond Lymphatic Drainage

When you client nears the 6 week mark post op you can begin incorporating scar work. During this course we will talk about when it’s appropriate to begin working on the scars, how to work that area, and the sequence in which it should be performed in conjunction with continued Lymphatic Drainage sessions.

Learn how to promote your practice to prospective clients and surgeons. Knowledge is key, and we will teach you valuable information to help you grow your practice as you assist your clients through their recovery process.

Course Objectives:

  • Identify the lymphatic trunks and drains in the body & the flow of lymph.
  • Understand drains & drain placement after a surgery & how to work around them.
  • Understand bolstering, placement & it’s role in post operative care.
  • Recognize the compression garments, corsets, lipo foam pads or boards used with post operative care.
  • Demonstrate techniques and pressure used to assist in the flow of lymph fluid.
  • Understand & list indication & contraindications for the modality.
  • Identify situations in which cupping may be beneficial in assisting with lymphatic flow.
  • Demonstrate techniques used with cupping to assist with lymphatic flow.
  • Understand when it would be appropriate to begin scar work as scars heal.
  • Demonstrate techniques used to begin scar work.
  • Understand how to perform a lymph drainage self-care routine and how to guide a client through a self care routine.
  • Successfully perform a 60 minute post operative lymphatic drainage session.

Instructor Bio

Katrina Long has been a Licensed Massage Therapist for 24 years and is the creator and co-founder Summit Medical Spa with two locations in Utah. She is also the co-founder of My LaVetta, a training company which offers an apprenticeship program geared towards certifying new Massage Therapist in Utah and continuing education courses for Licensed Therapists. She leads a growing and thriving staff of APRN’s, Nurses, Master Aestheticians, and Therapists.

Prior to owning her own business she worked as a Senior Sales Director for a national cosmetic company. She is a graduate of the Goldman Sach’s 10,000 small business owners entrepreneurship school. This past year she served as part of the DOPL exam review committee for Massage Therapy as an industry expert, and is also an approved provider and instructor with the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB).

Katrina is the daughter of an Army Veteran, and spent her formative years living in many different states and in Central America. She is the wife of a Firefighter and a mother of 4. She also enjoyed the experience of serving her community as an elected official for 4 years.

Where are the courses offered?

Additional courses beyond what are listed above may be offered when 6-10 people show interest. Katrina can come to you to teach a course. The TBD dates are available for travel outside of Utah if necessary or they will be held in Spanish Fork, Utah those days.

What does the Post Op Lymphatic Drainage program cost?

This is a two day course, each course is $350 each, or $700 total for both courses. We do offer a $100 off special ($50 per course) if you pay by RSVPing at least 30 days prior to the course date.

What is included in the course?

You will receive a certificate for 8 CEU hours from NCBTMB upon completion of each course for a total of 16 CEUs when both courses are completed. Each participant will receive an instruction manual for the course.

What Course materials do I need?

Plan to bring something to take notes on. Dress in comfortable clothing, or your typical massage uniform as you will be receiving and giving treatments during the course. If you are coming to an out of state course you, unless otherwise noted, you should bring a massage table and a set of sheets with you each day of the course.

What is your cancellation policy?

Once you RSVP no refunds will be given for the course. If you cannot attend the course you will be allowed to make it up at one of our upcoming courses. All costs associated with attending the course are your responsibility.

What is required to take this course?

You must be a Licensed Massage Therapist, Massage Student or Massage Apprentice or RN, or a Utah Licensed Master Aesthetician to attend this course. Some states allow Aestheticians to perform Lymphatic Drainage, Utah is one of those states. Please refer to your state laws and regulations to determine if you qualify to perform this modality on clients/patients.
